Please plan to attend this meeting and comment on the following:

  • A community-driven housing strategy is needed before the Comprehensive Plan moves forward. Any future Comprehensive Plan must be part of a city-wide policy that addresses housing needs for extremely low-income people.
  • The Comprehensive Plan must focus on race. Zoning lows have historically been used to segregate and displace communities of color. The Comprehensive Plan must make amends for the past.
  • The Comprehensive Plan must center extremely low-income residents. New planning and zoning decisions must help create new housing options for households earning less than 30% of area median income.

Ongoing City Council and Planning Commission Meetings:

Charlottesville City Council and the Planning Commission meet each month and often discuss affordable housing.  Please attend meetings and provide a public comment sharing your concerns about displacement of very low-income people, and the need for affordable housing for people earning less than $40,000/year.
